Lady in Red: Go Red for Women’s Heart Health

Did you see lots of media coverage about Wear Red Day earlier this month? We would like to take a moment to share more about this very special campaign. Go Red is a movement to increase awareness about the number one killer of women in the United States: Heart Disease. Killing more women than all cancers combined, heart disease is not just your father’s health problem anymore. Women across the country need to recognize their risk and take efforts to prevent heart disease.

The goal of Go Red for Women reaches beyond simply wearing red one day of the year. By placing the spotlight on heart disease in women, the hope is to encourage women to use their passion and energy to empower others to understand their risk for heart disease and to take steps to reduce that risk all year round.

What Can I Do?

  • Educate Yourself. No matter what your age, your heart’s health should be a priority. Find more information here about prevention tips specific to your age group and common heart attack symptoms for women.
  • Tell 5 Friends. Send a brief message to your friends made simple by the American Heart Association. Free and easy, this simple message can have an huge impact if everyone shares it with five others.
  • Get Involved. The American Heart Association has provided several options for getting involved in the Go Red action. Join community events and stay informed about heart health news.
  • Become a Better U. Don’t wait for another reason to alter your risk for heart disease. Use the 12-week online fitness and nutrition program sponsored by the American Heart Association.  Each week provides guidance and encouragement along with experts tips and an online journal.

So every time you pull out that favorite red outfit for yourself, remember that women can “Go Red” every day by putting their heart health first.
